Terracotta Gladiator Statuette, ca. 1st - 2nd Century AD. A Roman terracotta figure of a gladiator on an integral plith; wearing, a breastplate, shoulder guard and belted loin-cloth. He is holding a dagger in his right hand with the left hand raised to hold a now-missing attribute, probably a shield. No obvious signs of repair. Height: 9".

Lifelike Sandstone Head of Nubian Youth, ca. 1st - 2nd Century AD. A carved head of a Nubian youth, perhaps a Prince, in the style of Roman portraiture, with detailed features including incised eyes and tightly curled hair. Minor loss to the nose and small chipping on the right ear. A very well carved and lifelike representation! Mounted on a custom stand. Height: 7"; Length: 4 ¼"; Width: 6 ½".

Terracotta Statuette of Silenus / Papposilenos, ca. 1st - 2nd Century AD. The mischievous creature stands with hands on his hips, his robe thrown open revealing his manhood, which has clearly been sanded off at some point. He bears a grin with a long and scraggly beard. He wears a hat in the form of a phallus and testicles, which is nicely framed by his tall, donkey-like, ears. Quite the image and a most handsome example of Roman comical art. Losses to legs, nice deep brown surfaces with exquisite detail and fine style. Height: 5"; Length: 3"; Width: 2".

Cupid Gold Earrings, ca. 3rd Century AD. A matched set with minor individual variations. Each is comprised of a figure of Cupid on a matrix of white material, perhaps bone or glass paste, inset in a twisted gold wire frame. In the rear of each is attached a gold wire for insertion into the earlobe. Cupid leans (to the left in one earring and right in the other) against an upturned torch and is in a posture of mourning; legs crossed and arms folded, chin resting on palm. The subject's posture in combination with the upturned torch may mark these earrings as funerary in purpose. Choice condition, each with a faint hairline crack that was probably present since antiquity. Length: 1.4 cm; Width: 1.3 cm.

Syria, Palmyra. Indurated Limestone Relief Fragment, ca. AD 220-250. The fragment is possibly from a frieze. It depicts two gladiatorial feet, one with the lower leg extending to beneath the knee; the feet, are each wearing a sandal with a scrolling design on the ankle and a strap running down and across the foot. Height: 8"; Width: 11 ½".
